About

This blog comprises an occasional series of reflections on the world of learning from the perspective of someone who was profoundly disappointed by early experience in school. I spent the first five years of my life having my expectations of learning raised by the enthusiasm of my family only to have those dreams dashed on the first day. I had gone to learn, Instead, I was told to play in the wet sand tray.

It set a pattern of under-achievement and resentment about “lazy” education in schools and colleges. When I was told that I didn’t have the right attitude to be a teacher, I realised that this was the problem. Not so much my problem as the problem with a system which, perhaps unintentionally but undoubtedly systematically, so often lets down learners of all ages.

My mission is to help create conditions where learners can be inspired and enthused to take joy in their learning, where they can interact with other learners and achieve great things.
